Quarry Winter Wonderland?

One of North Buckhead's least known treasures is a rugged 2.5-acre wilderness in a 65-year old rock quarry nestled between Carmain and Glengary.  The quarry's owner, Bill Cummings, has let NBCA organize a number of "quarry tours".  So far, several dozen have seen the woods, the vertical rock walls and a narrow spring-fed waterfall.

Bill tells us that in very cold weather, the whole 20-foot high cliff near the waterfall turns into a glistening white ice-covered sheet, which is the whole point of this article.  When we get very cold

weekend weather, we will organize a spur-of-the-moment tour.  If you want to be contacted to join us, please contact Gordon Certain at gcertain@nbca.org, PO Box 420391, Atlanta, GA 30342, or 404-231-1192.

Information about the quarry  is available on our web site at www.nbca.org/quarry.htm.  Please respect the Cummings' private property and don't set up your own tours -- make tour reservations through NBCA.

NBCA Needs YOU!

You can help NBCA in two ways: joining us (if you haven't already) and volunteering.    We have a wonderful organization and have managed to get a lot of things done this year, but…

We especially need people to volunteer to join our board and take charge of one of our committees.  We have several committees that currently do not have a chair, including Community Outreach, Fund Raising, Membership and Neighborhood Safety.  Likewise, we have some committees that have a chair, but no additional members.  And (no names and no finger pointing!!!) we have some committees where nothing ever happens.

That's where you come in.  If you can dedicate a couple of hours on the second Monday of each month for our evening board meeting and additional time for committee work, you can make a big contribution to your neighborhood.  If you are interested, contact Kevin McCauley at kpmccauley@netscape.net, PO Box 420391, Atlanta, GA 30342, or 4-531-0006.  He will add your name to the slate of board candidates to be selected in our February 8 meeting.

We also need people who can take the time to attend city meetings and report on them.  We don't have enough people watching the City and things sometimes slip our attention until it is too late.

If you haven't joined our association yet, please do so.  The dues for a household are $25 for 12 months - the application form is on the back cover.  Our membership has been very strong this year, peaking at an all-time high of 463 earlier this month.

NBCA also maintains an email list of 441 addresses that we use to keep neighbors apprised of breaking news.  You don't have to be a member to be on our email list, or even a resident -- people with interests in North Buckhead from as far away as California, New York and Florida are on our list.  You can be too.  Send an email to nbca@nbca.org and ask to be added.
