Solicitors Get Police Attention

Chastain Park Recycling Bins

As part of their recycling contract with the City of Atlanta, BFI operates four recycling centers in the City.  You may use these bins to recycle items that are not picked up in the black, curb-side recycling bins.  The closest one to us is at Chastain Park, on W. Wieuca next to the gym across from the playground.

The following bins are available:
- Magazines
- Newspapers
- Telephone books
- Mixed Paper:  Books, Cardboard, paper, Spiral Notebooks, etc. (Clean paper only: no boxes, no garbage.)

If the bins are full, don't leave things beside or on top of the bins.  Such items are considered 'litter' and are thrown away.  Additional information is at www.nbca.org/recycling.htm.

At the March meeting of NPU-B, Major Spillane of our Police  Zone 2 sent the following message to us:

Door-to-door solicitations seem to be increasing in our area.  Some solicitors claim to have permits for their activity, flaunting some sort of ID cards.  The city of Atlanta does not issue such permits.  Residents should view solicitors with caution.

Major Spillane is asking that residents who are approached by solicitors phone the police precinct at 404-848-7231 rather than 911.  Major Spillane wants to know of solicitation activities.  Calling the precinct directly gives him the input he needs.   When calling the precinct for that purpose, please state that Major Spillane has requested that we call and that he wants to receive this information.

Buckhead Action Committee Forms Future

Several month ago, an informal group of Buckhead neighborhoods and business representatives plus members of the City Council, began meeting to talk about how to maintain and improve the quality of life in Buckhead.

Out of these discussions has come an effort to plan and fund a "visioning process", patterned after a very successful process undertaken in Midtown, which would involve everyone in the community who wants to participate.  Grant applications have been made and other sources of funding are being sought.

It is anticipated that an umbrella organization,

similar to the Midtown Alliance, will evolve from this effort.  Several neighborhood representatives are working together on this initiative, including Kay Beynart, the Buckhead Business Association, Buckhead Coalition, Urban Land Institute, Atlanta City Council, BATMA, BCID, and the City of Atlanta Bureau of Planning .
