Zoning Report

Your Zoning and Land Use Committee is composed of seven volunteers residents of our neighborhood.  I, Harold Cunliffe, Committee Chair serve with Lamar Miller as Vice-Chair. Kay Beynart, Bob Young, Jay Lask, Andrew Bleke and Tom Hicks round out the Committee.

Please take time to thank each one of the above folks for all their hard work and for the time that they have devoted to North Buckhead.

Routinely, we deal with Zoning, Variances, Subdivision Approval, Code Revisions, alterations to the Comprehensive Development Plan as well as numerous other issues that effect our neighborhood.

Last time I reported the issues surrounding Z - 00 - 44, Mr. R. L. Dougherty's proposal to construct a 100 unit residential condominium immediately across the street from Post Stratford. If you recall, the Buckhead Loop provides an opportunity for "smart growth" due to its proximity to many transportation alternatives as well as office and retail land uses, multifamily rental properties and high-density fee ownership. But in order to have all these pieces fall into place, they must have an array of connections with one another. The significance of the Dougherty property is that it offered the last chance to realize connectivity from the Buckhead Marta Station through to Phipps Plaza either on foot or by any of the shuttle proposals that are now being considered.

Recognizing these objectives, Mr. Dougherty has granted an easement alongside the full depth of his property that, at least, leaves open several options. Our community owes him a debt
