APRIL 2001

Zoning Report

are held at St. James Church and all members of the neighborhood are welcome to attend.

The Land Use Committee is a recommending body to the Neighborhood Planning Unit-B zoning committee, City of Atlanta Board of Zoning Adjustments, Zoning Review Board, & subdivision review committees.  Nine volunteer members living in the neighborhood serve on this committee: Lamar Miller, Keith Henry, Chris Patterson, Kay Beynart, Harold Cunliffe, Andrew Bleke, Jay Lask, Bob Young, & Tom Hicks.

They meet once a month to review applications for variances, special exceptions, rezonings, and new subdivisions and are the first opportunity for an applicant to appear before the public to explain their plans.   They hear from the affected neighbors, compare the application to the City Zoning Ordinance and then write letters of recommendation to the appropriate City committees.

We have only had two variances and one rezoning application before us this year.  In January, we heard a request for a variance to allow the construction of a carport on Statewood Rd, which was eventually approved by the city.  Our only application in February was deferred and will be heard in April.  March brought us a request for rezoning on Peachtree Dunwoody Rd,  for which both NBCA & NPU-B recommended denial.  That case is currently working its way through the system.

The meeting schedule, agenda, and minutes are posted on the NBCA web site.  Meetings
