It's been almost 2 years since our North Buckhead neighborhood opened its heart and put on our hard hats to help Shanita Silas and her family build their Habitat home. We thought it would be nice after all this time to check back in with our 'neighbor' and see how she's doing.
Much has happened since she moved into her house on Brown Avenue SE. Shanita continues to work as a supervisor at the 'Disco' Kroger on Piedmont. Her daughter, Ashley, is now 10 years old and in 4th grade at Slater Elementary School. Four months ago the world welcomed another girl, Veronica, into the Silas household. Shanita says, "we had to convert our den back into a bedroom, but there's still plenty of room." And

there will need to be. Shanita is now engaged and will be getting married soon. As you can se her sunny disposition and positive attitude have brought her much to be thankful for.
The thing she enjoys the most with her house is the peace and quiet compared to where she used to live. Of course, yard work can be a chore. She says, "The leaves still seem to be falling, even now". But she still loves her house and remembers fondly working alongside many of you from North Buckhead.
To give everyone a chance to get caught up with Shanita, we've invited to this year's Spring Fling on May 6th. Habitat houses are being built all the time throughout Atlanta. If you would like a chance to help another family build their house in the Atlanta area, contact Habitat for Humanity of Atlanta at 404-223-5180. .
