NBCA is not a political organization. We don't endorse candidates for public office. But we know that it is really important for citizens to be involved in the political processes, including voting. City elections are scheduled on 11/6/01 so register by 10/9/01.
Our part of town has a fair turnout in national elections and a poor one in local elections. Specifically, our Council District 7 plus District 8 (west of Roswell Road) had a combined 73% turnout in the last presidential election; in the last City-wide-only election, it was less than 30%. Bad enough, but we have a lot of people who don't even bother to register.
If you care about the quality of the government services you get, please register and please vote. Be involved, because we usually get the kind of government we collectively deserve.

With many residents moving in and soon being transferred somewhere else, it is sometimes hard to get a sense of the history of a neighborhood.
We are fortunate to have neighbors like Kitsie Rigall of Emma Lane, who helped us find some of our roots. She loaned us a 1945 copy of Pure Oil News, which described how Wiley Moore bought about 200 acres of hilly, wooded land. He built several houses, the lakes and the clubhouse in the area he called "Lakemoore", now the Lakemoore Condominiums, Emma Lane and Lake Emma. (Wiley's wife's name was Emma.) His friend was Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker of Eastern Airlines.
We have scanned all of this material and put it on our web site at
www.nbca.org/Lakemoore.htm. If you can help us with Buckhead history, please let us know.
