BCID/Peachtree Corridor Project Funded

This summer the U.S. Senate's Appropriations Committee passed its appropriation bill to the full senate for consideration.  Among other Georgia transportation projects funded in the bill (MARTA and GRTA buses etc.) was our Peachtree Corridor Project in the amount of $6 Million.

The Peachtree Corridor Project will serve to redesign Atlanta's signature thoroughfare, Peachtree Road, through Buckhead to better accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and mass transit while at the same time providing for the automobile. It could serve as a role model in a city that needs role models of the right type of street design that gives people transportation options.

The Buckhead Community Improvement District (BCID) has spearheaded this project seeking to include the surrounding communities (including ours) in the planning process.

Senator Max Cleland took the lead in obtaining this jump start funding for this project.   Now that funding has finally been approved by the Congress we will be able to make significant progress in beginning the transformation of a road that lies at the heart of our community to something well beyond a concrete thoroughfare, hospitable to cars only.

We will keep you posted on the progress and news of this monumental undertaking.
