Over the years, North Buckhead traffic has gotten worse and worse. With the on-going construction along the Buckhead Loop and Phipps Blvd. it is not hard to guess what our future holds.
What can you, as a North Buckhead resident, do? You can attend meetings of the NBCA Traffic Committee which meets on the last Monday of each month (except December) at St. James United Methodist Church (4400 Peachtree Dunwoody) at 7:00 PM. If you can't attend, please give Committee Chair Robert Sarkissian your complaints and suggestions -- email at
gcertain@nbca.org or USPS mail at NBCA, P. O. Box 420391, Atlanta, GA 30342.
In addition to meeting with neighbors, the Traffic Committee is having regular quarterly meetings with Ms. Sandra Jennings, manager of the city's Traffic and Transportation Department. Ms. Jennings and her staff are reviewing our concerns, performing traffic counts on neighborhood streets and will provide us with feedback about which improvements can be implemented, and when.
The Committee also provides information to the City Council. Recently Lee Morris introduced legislation to reduce the speed limits on Old Ivy Road (which is in front of Sarah Smith Elementary) and on North Stratford Road. This legislation, which is expected to pass, will reduce the limits from 30 MPH to 25 MPH, if it is signed into law by the mayor.
