New Tree Ordinance

On December 11, 2001, a new tree ordinance was made Atlanta law.  Previous newsletter articles have discussed this ordinance while it was being drafted.   

The key features of this ordinance are:

bulletPolicy: "Establish and maintain the maximum amount of tree cover on public and private lands in the city by prohibiting the destruction and removal of trees except in accordance with the standards set forth in this article;"

bulletIf you want to cut a tree larger than 6" in diameter at chest height, you MUST apply for a city permit - call 404-330-6874.  This applies to healthy trees, diseased trees and dead trees.

bulletIf you cut trees and don't replace them, expect to pay at least $375 to the city's new Tree Fund per un-replaced tree.  The city will
