Herons and Other Creatures

There have been several blue heron sightings since the last newsletter, so our feathered friend is still with us.
On November 12, Gordon Certain saw the heron while attending the BATMA VIP tour event.  As the ceremony started in front of NikeTown at Phipps Plaza, the heron flew over, several hundred feet up, gracefully flying south with his long legs trailing behind.
Heather Benamy, who is twelve years old, reported that she and her mom saw the heron on the rooftop of a house near Longleaf right behind Phipps Plaza.  It appears that the bird may have been eating fish out of a pond, since he was seen flying away. Subsequently, fish were discovered missing from the pond.  The bird was in the neighborhood the rest of the day and the following Monday.  This was around November 22.
Later in November, Diana Harris reported she had a bird's-eye view of just about the entire Lake Emma wetlands from her third floor home in Rosehill Apartments.  Two to three times a week, she sees
