Your Zoning Committee has experienced some changes during the first six months of 2004. Members Chris Patterson, Jim Knight, and Tom Hick moved away. Dana Maine has joined the committee.  Chad Richardson joined us last year; this year he also was elected to the NBCA Board.

We have openings for one or two more committee members who must be active members of NBCA.  We would prefer someone with professional building or engineering background.  Ours is a working committee, meaning that every member is actively involved in the processing of the applications we receive through the City Bureau of Building and Planning.

We have seen an upswing of applications for Variances which are typically required when home owners want to add on to their existing homes.  The City Offices BZA (Board of Zoning Adjustment) and ZRB (Zoning Review Board) have upheld all of

the recommendations we submitted so far this year.
As a neighborhood association it is not our mission to micromanage building projects; rather it is our task to bring the neighborhood perspective to the process.  In that we need your input and we thank those of you who have assisted us.

Many of you may be interested in our August (or maybe September, we don't know yet) meeting.   We have just learned that a large project is on the way to us involving the 9.25 acres of Pope and Land property located on North Stratford and Phipps Boulevard.  This is NOT scheduled to be presented to the NBCA Zoning Committee at the July 19 meeting.  This is the same property involved in litigation by the City and NBCA to the Georgia Supreme Court in 2001 -- the Court upheld the City's plan to permit development for residential use only. 
St. James Methodist Church is our gracious host. We meet there monthly, usually in Room 106, at 7:00 PM.
