Blue Heron Nature Preserve

Dear Neighbors,

Blue Heron Nature Preserve is passive greenspace, not a public park.  It was set aside for people to enjoy in its natural state without the amenities of a regular city park.  Nature is messy......this is the way it is supposed to be.  There are huge environmental benefits to a natural untamed setting such as: trees for shade, soundproofing and water filtration.  Plants need a place to grow freely.  Animals need these places to hide, feed and reproduce.  Several comments have come my way about how "un-manicured" the preserve looks.  This is the way it is supposed to look!
Many, many thanks to John Harrison who has mowed around the edges of the preserve and kept pathways open all through the summer.  If not for John's help, the preserve would have truly looked wild.  The preserve is our responsibility, not that of the City of Atlanta Parks De

partment.  I need help to keep it maintained.  It is our greenspace.  If you would like to volunteer to pick up the constant TRASH that is THROWN there please do so.   Interested in helping prune invasive plants, or pulling ivy or privet?  Need guidance?  Please call me: Nancy Jones at 404-252-8807.  The Preserve is what we want it to be and reflects the amount of care we bestow.  Get involved and help protect our greenspace!
