Blue Heron Preserve

By Nancy Jones

We have new miniature forest taking root at Blue Heron!  Thanks to horticulturalist Terry May -- new pines, wax myrtles, dogwoods and sweetbush have been planted to fulfill a small federal grant.  The new forest is taking shape between the original Preserve at Nancy Creek and developer Steven DeLonga's Chastain Reserve Development on Rickenbacker. Also, several species of native seeds have been planted to create a natural meadow of grasses and wildflowers.
Blue Heron board member Kevin McCauley has scheduled an ongoing work day at the Preserve on the second Saturday of every month from 9-12. Please come out and join him to help keep the Preserve looking its best.  Remember, this is hard won greenspace for our neighborhood and it takes all of us pitching in to maintain it.
We have a beaver at Blue Heron!  Evidence of a small pine tree chewed down indicates we have an active beaver at work on Nancy Creek.
