North Buckhead has pitched in to assist hurricane victims. On September 1st, our neighbors Suzanne and David Rubini sent out an e-mail through the North Buckhead e-mail network asking for soap, diapers, toiletries, canned food, towels, etc. That evening, their carport was filled with contributions.
They had originally planned to take these gifts to the Adamsville Red Cross shelter, but that shelter had already been amply supplied with contributions. The resourceful Rubinis then found another way to give: Atlanta International School was filling 18-wheeler trucks, supplied by Fulton Paper Company, with needed items. Tricia Israel and Chmaine Dowdle are North Buckhead residents who made donations at Atlanta International, then stayed to work as volunteers, sorting contributions and helping in other ways. Three filled trucks eventually headed for St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, Louisiana. Items not used at St. Elizabeth's were distributed elsewhere in the area. Suzanne writes: "Let me thank the North Buckhead community for all of the items that have been donated for hurricane relief."
